Communication has evolved in the last decade from sending text only to images, videos with animations. This resulted to discovery of short messages displayed where customers would read quickly. The text just showed up on the phone screen without interrupting the user. In 2010, Google launched their notifications

Push notifications were first used in 2003 where blackberry mobile created an email notification system for their users. This development was advanced in 2008 by a team of developers led by Matias Duarte. Substantial growth was noted in 2009 when Apple, during the launch of a smartphone, introduced Apple Push Notification System. This enabled Apple consumers to receive data in software installed on their phone, from the developers. Texts appear on the screen, a sound is played depending on the setting. They decide to view them in the settings panel to make necessary changes.

In 2010, Google launched their notifications which was designed to run on android devices. Consumers must have an active account to enable connectivity through their services. Before this update, messages were only sent to applications like Calendar, Contacts and Gmail. Polling was used where servers were queried to get new features developed. Software from different servers can send small texts to their clients on android. Information sent assists in refreshing data, notifying us of any new updates available.

Apple mobile notifications would interrupt all other activities making it very inefficient. Users were forced to deal with such it instantly as all other applications were paused. The notification center was established by IOS in 2011, a feature that put together all messages. Clients can choose what appears depending on the interaction with the feature sent. Once an action has been taken, it is removed from the list. To access this feature, put your finger at the top of the screen then drag downwards.

An improvement of the notification service was done in 2012. It was replaced by Google Cloud Messaging whose transfer load had increased. Data sent would be larger, allowing us to access applications using links. Information was simple and reliable, reached by android devices across the network. Marketing companies have noted the power of push information to convey promotional material. The appearance of notifications improved to add pictures including reply options in 2016.
